What is the Method Authoring Method (MAM)?

For many years, the IBM Rational Unified Process®, or RUP®, team has been developing method frameworks by "drinking its
own champagne;" that is, by applying principles, processes, and techniques that RUP itself advocates for software
development. However, developing methods is not quite the same as developing a software application. Over the years,
the RUP team has adapted its own processes and techniques to the specific needs of method development. The Method
Authoring Method (MAM) is the result.

The MAM is a collection of best practices for authoring methods derived from the long-term experience of the Rational
Unified Process (RUP) development team that are directly supported by Method Composer. The scope of its content
is from a set of method requirements (or an idea of the method you want to build) and a method that is ready for
deployment to practitioners. In other words, the MAM includes all content related to taking set of method requirements
and producing a method that is sready for deployment (aka method authoring).

Why is MAM Important?

The value proposition of the Method Authoring Method (MAM) is that it:

Streamlines the business process of method authoring, enabling consistency across the
organization, both in terms of processes followed and methods produced

Reduces the risk and overall cost of method development, unifying process and governance to promote
operational excellence without over simplification

Improves the quality of IBM’s method authoring solution, in terms of methods (MAM) and tooling
(RMC). In addition to defining best practices for method authoring, providing the tooling to help automate
those best practices.
