         This extension point enables low-level model converters to contributed which perform an on-the-fly conversion of model instances between different versions during serialization/deserialization.

These model converters can notably be used in order to ensure compatibility with model resources that are based on other (typically older) revisions than the metamodel implementation. For example, a model converter can be written to handle MyMetaModel 1.2.1 resources with a MyMetaModel 1.2.5 implementation. The conversion works in both directions, i.e., can be applied for loading older model resources with a newer metamodel implementation and for saving newer model instances back to older model resources.
