+
My relationship with Eclipse began during my computer science studies. I learned coding with the Eclipse IDE and I participated in the Fujaba open-source research project - which was based on Eclipse. After co-founding Yatta, we joined the Eclipse Foundation as a Contributing Member and are still very committed to the community. We contribute to various Eclipse open-source projects, including:

+
My vision is for Eclipse to become the most thriving collaboration platform for developers. This includes corporate and non-profit businesses, vendors and users, organizations and individuals alike. By leveraging shared resources, encouraging community commitment and enabling mutually beneficial collaboration, Eclipse will continue to help us develop.

+
As a contributing member representative on the Board of Directors, I will work hard to:

+
Encourage community commitment. Eclipse’s biggest asset is its community. To strengthen the community, we need to encourage active commitment. Engaging members and contributors — and valuing their investment — ensures long-term success.

+
Improve the Eclipse Platform.
+For two decades Eclipse has supported its members and users in building more and better software. Open-source tools and technologies are at the very core of Eclipse. The future still needs a truly vendor-neutral open-source platform for developers. And this requires awareness, funding and contributions.

+
Promote projects. Nothing contributes more to the Eclipse Platform and the community than successful projects. Enabling existing projects and exploring new possibilities will bring new individuals, ideas and innovations into the Eclipse ecosystem.

+
Strengthen our open-source ecosystem. Now more than ever, Eclipse has become an ecosystem for collaboration among developers based on open source. To sustain and evolve Eclipse, I want to help members and users alike to connect with each other and create value.

+
Manuel is COO and co-founder of Yatta. He also is a software engineer, tool developer and open-source enthusiast.

+
Having studied computer science at the University of Kassel, Manuel graduated with honors. At Yatta, Manuel started out as a software engineer and tool developer. He soon transitioned into the roles of project lead and product manager. With experience gained from overseeing several software projects for medium-sized to large-scale enterprises, Manuel continued his development and became CTO - and now COO - of Yatta.

+
Over the years, Manuel has visited dozens of Eclipse DemoCamps and EclipseCons, speaking with many members of the community. Today, Manuel coordinates Yatta’s contributions to the Eclipse IDE in the Steering Committee of the Eclipse IDE Working Group.

+
Away from all the tech, Manuel is a road cyclist and sports enthusiast. He loves cycling for hours with his crew in his North Hessian home region, across the Alps or on the endless streets of Mallorca.

+I am the member representative from Johns Hopkins University which is working toward transitioning an open source software platform known as the Public Access Submission System (PASS) into an Eclipse product. Additionally, I am working with members of the Eclipse Foundation leadership to conceptualize a working group that focus on open source research software from universities with a goal toward additional translation of those software into Eclipse products.

+My interest in contributing further to the Eclipse Foundation’s goals relates to building better connections between universities’ and commercial open source software. Research universities produce a vast amount of open source software but, to date, have little direct engagement with companies and open source foundations. While I am working on a specific product (PASS), I view this effort as a model or exemplar for other university-based open source research software. I believe that fostering such connections has many potential benefits for the Eclipse Foundation including new members, greater adoption of existing handbooks and practices, more opportunities for translation of software from universities, and building capacity within universities to better engage with companies, including training of students to learn open source software development. Ultimately, such connections could lead to new funding opportunities for the Eclipse Foundation from universities and external funding agencies that fund universities (e.g., US National Science Foundation).

+Since I got involved in the Eclipse Community I've had several roles. Most of the time as a committer, but also as a member of the Eclipse Science Working Group; member of the Board of the Directors; and the EclipseCon Europe Program Committee. I was the EclipseCon Europe Program Committee Chair for the 2018 and 2019 conferences.

+Since I first joined the board five years ago, the Foundation has gone through many important changes. The organisation can now handle specification projects such as Jakarta EE and AsciiDoc. The Eclipse IDE Working Group has been established, forming an organization around the development and improvement of the Eclipse IDE and in extension the RCP Platform. We have established a new GitLab based software forge on neutral ground in Switzerland. We have moved the organization to Brussels and Europe. The Eclipse Foundation is now Europe's largest and most important open source foundation, allowing a new category of members such as the European Space Agency to join.
+

+
+

+If reelected as a contributing member representative I would like to:
+

+
+

+Continue to support efforts to establish the Eclipse Foundation as the premier open source foundation – based in Europe, and with a global reach.
+

+
+

+Advance the use of Eclipse technologies, particularly in scientific and industrial applications, where a diverse collection of our APIs is already suitably used.
+

+
+

+Improve the Eclipse Platform — which is such an important part of all the various IDEs built on top. Not forgetting about RCP, which many companies are basing their products on.
+

+
+

+Take care of committers and community. It should be easy and fun to work with Foundation tools and infrastructure. Providing excellent service and lowering the bar will also encourage outside contributions. Developing the community also means being open and inclusive towards all; regardless of religion, colour, culture or gender. This is something I would like the Eclipse Community to become famously known for.

+I have a background from electronics, but started at the Trondheim College of Engineering (now NTNU) in 1994 to study software engineering. I have built on the Eclipse Platform since 2004, and have as a contractor and consultant helped companies use various Eclipse technologies for more than a decade. Most of this time I have spent developing industrial solutions for the semiconductor, maritime and offshore energy sectors.
+

+
+

+	I work for and are a co-owner of Itema, a small software consultancy with 32 highly skilled and dedicated people, all also co-owners. We do everything from prize winning web sites to marine operations simulation tools and games for iOS and Android. We are based in Trondheim, Norway — a university city with around 33,000 students, about half of those with a STEM curriculum. Much of the work we do is for technology companies that are spin-offs from the university and SINTEF, the largest independent research organisation in Scandinavia.
+

+
+

+

+I founded the Trondheim Eclipse User Group in 2013 and have with Itema hosted a number of Eclipse DemoCamps.
